who is 'hammer'? Hammer made his debut on the 17th Match 2016 at SPW Fight For Gold in his hometown of Invercargill! He issued an Open Challenge to anyone in New Zealand wrestling that wanted to test how far he had come since training at the SPW Academy. Australia's Brodie Coast answered the challenge, it didn't go well for him! Hammer made a huge impact and eventually beat Brodie Coast with his now finishing move the 'Chokebomb'. Hammer is the first SPW student to make his debut on a live professional wrestling show, and what a debut it was! However, fellow student Will Power clearly didn't take too kindly that Hammer was getting opportunity before him. After Hammer's win, Will took to the ring and grabbed a microphone explaining that it should of been him making his debut, raging jealousy... He got a Chokebomb for his troubles... We caught up with Hammer shortly after his match and got a short interview...check it out! SPW: How did it feel to make your Debut last week? HAMMER: Making my debut was soooooo god dam exciting! The night I got told I was going to be on the show I kinda struggled to sleep due to the excitement! The most exciting part of my debut was bringing the ‘Hammer’ to life, especially in my home town. Once I walked through the entrance it was time to put all my training into practice. SPW: How did you first get into wrestling? Who was your favourite Wrestler as a kid, do you have any inspirations? HAMMER: I have been a wrestling fan since the mid 80’s when WWF was on TV at 10pm. I remember doing my best to try and stay awake to watch my hero’s fight. Its very hard to single out any particular who was my favourite but I used to be captivated by the ‘big guys’ such as Mr Wonderful Paul Orndorff, The Rock Don Morocco, Hercules, The Ultimate Warrior and The Islanders to name a few. When the wresting came to Invercargill 25years ago I was ringside as a young boy inspired by these huge men in particular Siva Afi. I got into wrestling after going to the SPWs first Invercargill show. I decided to put my name down. I had seen the media coverage of T-Rex over the last few years and how he travelled to Queenstown to attend training, at that time I thought it would be great to experience learning how to actually wrestle. So after attending the SPW show and learning there could possibly be a club in Invercargill, I was not going to let this opportunity pass. SPW: How would you describe your training experience at SPW? HAMMER: Ive been fortunate enough to get a good amount of ring time during my time at the school, it’s a comfortable environment, great team! The school caters for all physical capabilities and levels. SPW: What advice would you have, for someone wanting to become a Pro Wrestler? HAMMER: Take advantage of what SPW has to offer with experienced trainers and a great team…..and don’t wait!.....do it while you can. SPW: What are the 'Hammer's goals in SPW?
HAMMER: To prove to NZ that SPW has and will continue to create wrestlers such as Hammer. Hammer vows to totally annihilate anyone who steps in his ring and send shockwaves through the NZ wrestling scene. Every wrestler in the country will shake in fear when his name is mentioned. Hammer is the big brother every school kid wished they had…the Hammer is the backup every solder wished they had behind them…the Hammer is, the fear, the nightmare you wish upon your darkest enemies! These factors along with brute strength, agility, unexpected speed and a unstoppable hunger to inflict devastation on those he see’s deserving to experience the pure epitome of suffering and defeat. SPW: Lastly, what were your thoughts on Will Power getting in your face after your debut? HAMMER: My old training partner "Will Power" I always knew the day would come when you would crack with jealously, the hours and hours of training together....the blood, the sweat! You were always in my shadow, one step behind me never quite able to reach my level. How dare he choose my debut match (after I destroyed my first ever opponent) to publicly voice his jealously at me for being the number one SPW graduate. The slap in my face has just added to the punishment he will endure. One move and I knocked him out cold. I now need to make an example out of him and tear Will Power limb from limb to show every single wrestler in NZ that the Hammer is a one man wrecking ball and a force no one has ever seen!
